A lot of you already know about a few of the things I really love in life, and my family is definitely one of those things. Top priority, in fact! I had a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend at The Lake with my family--running, fishing, paddle boarding, and even diving down into the icy waters of Flathead Lake to retrieve my Dad's fishing rod holder that I knocked out of the boat when I had a big fish on the line! The freezing water took my breath away, but it was also pretty fun to go for a swim in May. I'm pretty sure this was the warmest/hottest/most gorgeous Memorial Day Weekend I've ever witnessed in the Flathead Valley!
After a couple days of vacation at the lake, it was time to get back to work at the Wheelie HQ. I wasn't quite sure what to expect this week. All I knew was I that I couldn't wait to get back to work on the projects we have rolling right now. Plus the possibility of my official Wheelie Business Cards arriving was pretty high and I couldn't wait to see what Lisa had created for me! They're pretty much awesome and hilarious and it's exactly something I would say to someone! "Um....is that Comic Sans?" hahaha
With this week being a short work week, I'm already shocked that it's blog posting time again. It's just crazy to think that it's been three full weeks since I started here full time. We've had some great new projects come our way, as well as the usual suspects we continue to work on weekly. This week brought new logo design for a small business coming into Whitefish called "Yoga Hive". Lisa and I put our design skills together and came up with some really fun concepts for our client, Mollie! Start-up business projects seem to be one of our favorite tasks around here. It's so much fun to create a design that is new, original, and will be seen by everyone in the valley. Every time we walk by one of our posters, or see a sign we created in a really fun window display on Central (yeah we're talking about you, Boxcar Betty!) we feel a sweet little victory.
On that note, I'd like to talk a little bit about the saying "You get what you pay for."
This could not be more true. I've been a professional photographer in business for 5 years now, and have been shooting for a little over 11 years. I've had several clients ask me, "well why should I pay you the fee you want vs the $20.00 I could give my friend to take my photos?" It's simple, really. You truly do get what you pay for, and I'm not afraid to say that to some clients now. It's important that you know where your money is going and that you're not wasting your time. For the record, it's not the fee all creatives want...it's the fee we deserve and we earn based on our knowledge, skills, education, and training. Do you want to do things right the first time? Or waste a small amount of money and a large chunk of your time going with what works okay for you right now, and then a few weeks or months down the road, decide to really get serious about branding your business?
It's the exact same principle in design. Sure, you could pay someone who dabbles in web design a small fee to get a site up and running for you, but is it really what you wanted? Does this website make you money and get your business the results you deserve? It's important to think of your business long-term, and where you'd like it to go in the future. Here at Wheelie, we've found that those who commit to branding and developing their business right the first time tend to be very happy with the outcome, and even more excited about the fact that one of the hardest parts of starting a business is done, and done the right way!
We not only do logo design, but print design, posters, coasters, flasks, tags, t-shirts, web design, online stores for your site. I'm a photographer/designer so we have a photographer on hand as well, plus we even write really awesome press releases and send them out to all the news stations, magazines, and news papers in the valley to get our clients noticed! And have I mentioned, we throw a hell of a New Business or Re-Branding Party? Lisa just booked a band this week to help The Montana Scene celebrate their new name and branding in June. We truly want our clients to succeed, and we want them to know how much we care and are willing to help them reach their goals. So when you feel like it's the perfect time to start a business, think about what you want and make a plan on how to do it right the first time so you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
