By Amanda Guy - Our Designer
Yep! It's Friday, and you know what that means???? BLOG TIME!
This week has been nothing short of soggy, as the title implies, with all the rain, and we are all getting a little stir crazy and ready to be outside to enjoy the long weekend. (Hopefully we have a little sunshine here and there over the next three days!)
But I'm getting off topic here, I'm sure you'd rather just hear about what has been happening at the office this week while we've all been seeking shelter from the rain. Well let me enlighten you!
Our Week & Projects
LThe week started off with a bang! First we had our daily, morning team huddle, and Lisa had returned from week away. She had lots of updates for us and we had quite a bit for her to take in. We spent the morning reviewing where we are at with all of our projects, making sure plenty of coffee was in the pot and started designing to our hearts' desire! Then we got to celebrate Dan's Birthday at Great Northern Brewing Co., for lunch. He was pretty pumped about his "flannel" cake I made him.
Lisa and I got to work on a project together where we busted out our pencils, markers, and some drawing paper, and then brought the drawings into our design programs. We've been working diligently on the brand new, COMING SOON, Spotted Bear Spirits website. Keep and eye out for this one-- you will not be disappointed. Hopefully we'll be able to take this thing live in the next couple of weeks. But in the meantime, we've been adding fun designs, a super rad lookbook to show you all what is to be found at the distillery, and much much more.
Between Dan and myself, we've been racking up the billable hours lately. We love being able to say that. Staying busy is so much fun. Thank you clients for keeping us up to date on fresh ideas and designs!
Dan has been busting out his creative writing skills to write blog posts in collaboration with clients and helping me with content for events and brand guides. This is so awesome for me, for the simple fact that I see things in designs and Dan understands what our clients need to read or see to understand where my creative brain is taking them. Lisa also helps me with this a lot as well.
Courtney has been writing contracts like crazy, and she laughed about it the other day saying, "Man! I thought I was done with this Lawyering business! I've written more contracts this week than ever before, Y'all are keeping me busy over here!" I still love that she has that southern accent to contribute to this office! So much fun.
Other Rad Projects & Office News
This week for me has been really fun with lots of Typography design! As a lot of you may know, Melissa and Sean, from The Montana Scene just opened their new location here in Whitefish, right on Central Avenue! We are stoked for these two, they've been searching for a Whitefish space for such a long time and finally got the perfect spot for their unique products.
Melissa has had me working on fun window graphics and some new shirt designs. It's so crazy walking into that store and seeing everything you've made hanging on the walls and displayed neatly on display tables. Thanks so much Melissa and Sean, for having us create so many different pieces of content for you. We love getting to stretch our creative legs on all things Montana.
I also had the task to work on event branding for the Two Bear Marathon via our client, The Wave. I was able to create fun graphics and then incorporate the event's copy into the full design. Typography designs are so much fun to make, and as a designer I'm always looking for fun new ways to add text into the design without it remaining too simple or unoriginal. It's always fun to hear how some designs capture attention immediately. Lisa once told me that her design philosophy for posters is to design something someone will want to steal. She said that if someone nabs your poster from a coffee shop or brewery bulletin board, you've done your design job properly.
The Other Office News...
So as you all know, we had to say goodbye to Niles a couple of weeks ago, as he completed his internship with flying colors. Niles worked with FOFAC-Friends of the Flathead Avalanche Center, DREAM Adaptive, Bigfork MOPS, and on tops of those designs, built us our much loved infinity wall. Thanks again Niles, you're wonderful--but since you left, we had to find someone else to fill your shoes--so good luck with everything Niles, you'll crush it at life I'm sure!
Once mid week hit, we welcomed our new summer intern, Alicia, to the office. We are so pumped to have Alicia working with us this summer. She'll be here once a week so hopefully some of you will get to work with her on fun design projects. We can't wait to get her adjusted to our crazy office behaviors and take her to Jersey Boys for a slice of Dangry! --Alicia! We're going to need a photograph of you! Stay tuned to learn more about this rad girl!
WheelHouse Office Space Update
Not much has changed in the office this last week. With the weather being a little shifty around here, we pretty much just stuck to our computers all week and will continue with yard work and updates as the summer approaches. However, we did come in one morning to discover our kitchen ceiling sagging and a little plaster on the floor! Thanks a lot rain! You big jerk! But our awesome landlord was on it immediately and had a professional stop by to take look.
We also spent a morning cleaning up a lot of fluffy Baby Eddy hair. How does he lose so much hair but still remain so fluffy? Good thing we stay on top of the sweeping. We'd be sweeping up enough hair to make a small animal if we didn't keep up with it. Courtney has also been bringing her dog, Roy, to work. We love our office dogs!
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!
Happy Friday everyone! Thanks for checking out my blog post this week, I'm sure you're all getting very excited for the long weekend ahead. I want to give a shout out to all of the armed services/forces, and everyone that has ever served, or is currently serving, in the military. We appreciate your sacrifices for our country. Happy Memorial Day.
Stay dry out there, WheelHeads!
