Most yurts are located in remote destinations where you’re fortunate enough to be fully unplugged or cell phone service can be spotty at best. So loading up the GPS before you depart can become mission critical if you’re unfamiliar with the destination. This is because most cell enabled GPS programs are unable to load directions once you’ve lost service, and turning back is never an option!
2. Safety first.
Aside from your standard backcountry first aid kit, everyone in your party will need at minimum a beacon, shovel, and probe, as well as, the knowledge and ability to use each tool in the event shit gets real.
This means early season prepping by attending a local level one avy course, or attending a refresher course if it’s been a few years. Yurt trips are also a great time to brush up on your skillset with a rousing game of beacon hide-and-seek. Give it a try, bury a buddy and track the groups locating response time. Remember the rule with beacons is, on at the car, off at the bar, so always have them with you, and hope you never need them.
5. Required: one solid crew.
Yurts are tight, confined spaces, and there’s absolutely zero privacy. That said, your pre-trip preparedness and post trip success is largely dependent on each person pulling their own weight to decrease the stresses placed on the group as a whole. Having a solid crew is the most reliable way to accomplish this, and come away remembering how amazing your trip was. Failure to heed this warning will result in you harping over how so-and-so was bringing down the vibes.
So, there you have it. The Wheelie recommended list of must-haves for any wintertime escape to your favorite backcountry destination. Remember these are not merely suggestions or recommendations, these are guaranteed ways to pack the most into any adventure you may dream up. Follow this list and you can’t go wrong.

I can't recommend Wheelie enough. Our website launch was almost too successful, and we could barely keep up with the amount of orders we received as soon as we announced the rebrand. They are ah.MAZING!"
