I usually work Sundays, and today was no different. I spent the morning with a cup of coffee and my laptop while my manfriend made us a great breakfast. Instead of writing my normal email newsletter, I went through productivity logs from all my employees and rechecked our overhead now that we've upgraded to a bigger office with a lot more expenses. Yuck. We do have the physical capacity to grow now, though, and that's really important. I analyzed which of our services are the most profitable and looked into the why's and why not's of our most and least successful projects. Complacency was never my strong suit, and business is no different. Eventually, my manfriend ripped the laptop from my king fu death grip and replaced it with my mountain bike, and we spent the afternoon exploring and laughing and enjoying each other. Eddy the puppy is limping on his front paw, so we left him home in his giant kennel with a fluffy dog bed. (I think his paw is likely sore from yesterday's dog park session since there are no tender spots on his foot. Something to keep an eye on.)
While we were exploring today, I thought about wanderlust. In my early twenties, I liked to move a lot. I loved living where I wanted to go. In one tax year, I lived in Crested Butte, Bend, and Salt Lake, followed by a year of Salt Lake, Fort Collins, and Whitefish. That's kind of insane. It's a lot of mobile living, and everything I owned (mostly gear and art supplies) used to fit in my car. If I wondered about a place, I wandered there. It was that easy. Now I'm settled and throwing down some serious roots, and that is nice, too. Montana is strange in that it's vast, and there is always more to explore. Today we went to a part of the valley that my manfriend had never been, and we found a massive, sandy beach to play on that neither of us knew existed. Exploring keeps things interesting. Wander more, wonder less.
