This has been one of the crazy weeks where we find ourselves all sitting in the office today going, "Where the hell did the last 4 days go? How is it already Friday?" Which in our line of work just means we're doing something right because of how busy we are. But this week for my round of A Wheelie__Fill in the Blank__ Week, I don't want to get too into the projects we're working on. No, this week I want to post about Lisa Slagle.
If you've never had a Boss that you can laugh so hard with that you almost pee your pants, then you're doing it wrong! In my life of being an employee and working for "The Man," I've had three particular bosses that I've had to run to the bathroom so I don't pee my pants because of how much fun we have at work and how funny our conversations can be. Not that this post will be mostly related to peeing pants or anything, although according to Billy Maddison, "You ain't cool unless you pee pants!" This post is just meant to explain how much I love working at Wheelie and why Lisa Slagle is doing it right!
Let's begin by starting on Monday when I walked in the door and Lisa was here bright and early working away diligently before Dan or myself got here. Which means Lisa probably got to the office around 6:30 or 7:00am! The first thing she did when I walked in the door was start signing to me. This is what this post is all about! My boss singing to me, serenading me about some of the funniest and silliest stuff.
Lisa Signing: "Amandaaaaa, I missed youuuuu, and we have a lot to dooooooo"...tra la la la and all that jazz!"
Right off the bat I'm thinking, "YES! This is why I agreed to take this job, because I get sung to every day!" Literally, I meant it, EVERY DAY. And it's one of the best things ever because you start your day off in a great mood and you know that hilarity will ensue, even when Lisa is having a normal reaction to being stressed she'll bust out a song.
Lisa Signing: "Amandaaaa, and Daaaaan I'm overwhelmed, aaaaand this office is great, and I'm hungryyyyyy" (honestly I wish you could actually hear her sing these fun little "jingles" she comes up with on the fly, but I'm sure most of you that have ever gone mountain biking or done anything with Lisa, you know about the singing!)
Lisa will sing when we do something awesome too, and typically she'll walk over to my desk with excitement, sometimes she does lunges over, and will literally be singing the whole time, and then when she reaches my chair and sees what I'm working on she will punch me on my arm and yell "AMANDAAA! I LOVE IT!" (no Amanda's were/or will be harmed during the work hours at Wheelie Creative) Mostly it reminds me of the episode of FRIENDS where Chandler's boss always smacks him on the ass and yells "BING!!!" when he does something right at work.
I'm seriously looking forward to today because I know the singing will occur again and we all giggle. But the awesomeness of it all makes my weeks at Wheelie fly by! Not only because we are busy and killing it on the Design front, but because being at work is one of the best parts of my day, and Lisa could not be more encouraging or supportive. Well maybe she could, who knows what all that Woman is capable of. We're pretty much blown away by her creativity and ideas every day. She actually asked me in our phone meeting the other day if I was feeling creatively supported at work, and my response was this, "OH MAN LISA! Do I ever, You're are so supportive, like a wonder bra!" Cue the epic laughter over the phone!
I'd like to inspire those of you out there that own a business to sing to your employees! It's awesome, and it makes their day. And for those of you that are working at a job that you don't look forward to every day, get out of there! Quit and do what you really want to do, and find a job where the boss serenades you on a daily basis.
HAPPY FRIDAY READERS!
OH!!! PS--COME TO SPENCER MOUNTAIN ON SATURDAY!
It's the grand opening of Spencer, and since we did all the signage and maps there, Lisa and Amanda will be in the parking lot at 6pm with a free photo booth and free beer!!
