Art Directors are problem solvers. They're not afraid to roll up their sleeves, grab a mouse, and throw down some legendary work, however, most of the time, they oversee the work of designers, determine overall style and tone, create images, inspire others, and saturate everything they touch with strategy. They know how to create work that makes people feel feelings.
They are able to run creative direction on campaigns, as well as supervise designers and photographers on multiple projects. The Art Director is a leader, a creative mind and a storyteller all in one. They know that great design solves problems. This person talks to clients and loves delivering big presentations and answering client questions, often alongside someone on our Accounts Team.
This position reports to the CEO, Creative Director, and Operations Director, and oversees the design team.
An Art Director has many duties and responsibilities. This person likely has an affinity for hats because in a small agency like ours, this position wears a lot of them. One day may involve organizing commercial shoots with lots of backcountry skiing while another day involves writing campaign copy for a surf company on the east coast. Another day may involve art direction for a corporate campaign followed by tracking results of a 360 campaign for a client who makes beer for a living. Every day is different. Every project is different. Every client deserves our best efforts, no matter what.
Art Directors work alongside the Creative Team and report to the Creative Director to explore and develop design concepts and directions for marketing campaigns, print and digital materials, and multiple projects. This requires them to make conceptual and stylistic decisions and be able to back them up. Creating layouts, mockups and prototypes may be required to illustrate their design idea to other members of the team or management. This occasionally involves coming up with slogans and copy for campaigns. This also involves a plan for tracking effectiveness of work.
This person must be able to give engaging presentations to our internal team as well as clients. This person absolutely must be able to hold a room and set the tone, delivering presentations that are as intelligent as they are entertaining to match the Wheelie brand. This person also acts as quality control for their projects by reviewing and editing their team’s final products before distribution of any materials occurs. This person will be client-facing, which involves deeply understanding and matching the Wheelie brand, which delivers work as excellent as its customer service.
Staying ahead of design trends, creative trends, industry trends, and socioeconomic trends is crucial to the success of the Art Director position. To best serve our clients, this person views research as a lifestyle choice, and this person continually researches marketing trends and strategies and the technologies used in advertisement practices. They must be able to recognize their intended audience and the best strategies for reaching said population. They must also be aware of what competitors are doing in order to create innovative and new designs and concepts. They must be bold.
The Art Director should be a creative individual with fantastic interpersonal skills. They must be a reliable employee and enjoy challenging and fast-paced work. Being extremely motivated and having strong leadership skills is also important.

Job Title: Creative Team Member (Graphic Designer/Creative Powerhouse/Digital Producer)
Who You’d Report To: Upper Management/Creative Director
This position is for a very special type of creative. This is a design-photo-web UX hybrid where you will be challenged daily to create various mediums with various programs. We are a small business, so if you like rigid roles where you are doing a repetitive task, this is not the position for you. We work with a lot of different clients in a lot of different styles, and this requires adaptability, a wide skill set, and the ability to create in a variety of stylistic decisions.
This role is responsible for conceptualization and implementation of design solutions that support a brand and business objective from concept to completion. These designs will include the marketing projects, programs and tasks associated with new and updated sales tools and product support material to include national advertising, brochures, presentations, POP and national marketing promotions/campaigns. You must be seasoned. You must have your shit together. This is not an entry-level design position.
• Highly motivated and a high level of initiative; ability to work independently, under minimal supervision in support of the company’s goals and objectives.
• The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Graphic Design or related field and a minimum of three years design experience.
• Produce compelling designs for internal and external clients, both creatively and effectively, in multiple media types including, but not limited to print, digital and collateral.
• Assist in the creative and production of special events and/or meetings throughout the year and needs to be able to travel to events up to twice a year if required.
• Strong interpersonal skills; a team player, positive and innovative thinker.
• Demonstrates knowledge of printing techniques/requirements for developing print-ready mechanical files and work directly with print vendors to ensure quality and maintain cost standards.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (ESPECIALLY Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and AdobeXD) on a Mac platform. Ability to produce and be able to speak to web and digital related media is a plus. Ability to code websites, or at least the willingness to learn this, as well as other new skills. Ability to handdraw or Illustrate/Watercolor and then digitize designs is a requirement as well.
• Candidate should have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, as this individual will be interacting with executive management, as well as daily client interaction.
• Must have the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities efficiently and effectively under strict timelines with minimal supervision.
• Capable of creation of Trail Maps. Creation of trail maps often requires riding trails, dropping pins on GIS software, and keeping track of all data. Then turning it into a trail map.
• Maintain best practices for file and server management, including the consistent application of naming conventions, file/folder organization and versioning control
• Seek out new design perspectives, technologies and bring ideas and innovation to the table.
• Must possess excellent decision making skills and be able to take action with minimal guidance. Ability to open and close the office.
• Possess a positive attitude when working with colleagues, associates, and clients. Be solutions-oriented, and supportive in finding solutions to unexpected challenges.
• Candidate will put his or her time-management skills and ability to work under pressure to the test in this fast-paced corporate environment.

This position includes all aspects of post-production from editing to perfection to file management to delivering final files. • Mastery of all phases of video: pre-production, production, and post-production.
• Mastery of computer skills, especially the Adobe Creative Suite. We use a lot of real art supplies, too.
• Knowledge of marketing practices, particularly in the outdoor industry.
• The ability to take educated chances and make them pay off. Ability to give and receive feedback. This goes for all positions at Wheelie.

A small-but-mighty creative agency seeks another member for our Creative Team. We are nimble. We are fun. We are often outdoors. And because every project we do is custom, we require our Creative Team members to be versatile, smart, and on top of trends and effective communication. I’m a Business Administration major at Gonzaga University with a concentration in Marketing and minors in English and Entrepreneurial Leadership. Fit that on a diploma! I’m 2 semesters, 40-some credits, and one 50 page thesis from graduating with my BBA and heading off into big, scary place that I’m told is called the “real” world.

Last Thursday, Wheelie was extremely proud to host the first ever Montana Camber Exchange through Camber Outdoors, an organization dedicated to encouraging women's leadership from the backcountry to the boardroom. After several weeks of planning and preparations, the event finally arrived, and we packed the lawn with some badass ladies and a few supporting fellas for an evening of networking, eating, drinking, and speeches. These like-minded individuals were able to gather, meet new people, and discuss their passion for business in the outdoor industry.
Formerly knows as the Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition (OIWC), Camber Outdoors was founded 1996 to empower and encourage women in the active-outdoors industry.

Recently Lisa and I had the opportunity to participate in an extremely fun event out at Whitefish's very own, Whitefish Bike Retreat. Cricket Butler hosted Zander Ault and Heidi Rentz of The Cyclist's Menu out at the bike retreat on July 6th for a group ride followed by a delicious cycling menu chalk full of freshly grown, local farm foods from the Flathead Valley.
These pop up events not only bring together locals and friends within the community for a fun trail ride together, but also bring support to the trail systems and non-profits they visit. They also support local farmers and bring awareness to the importance of local foods. Zander and Heidi recently hit the road for this season's pop up events and their first stop was Whitefish, MT where all proceeds were donated to Flathead Area Mountain Bikers.

Hi Everyone! I know it has been a long time since my last Wheelie HQ update, but I’m back, and I have a lot to share with all of you.
It’s bananas how fast this year feels. It’s already June, and I feel like we just celebrated Christmas and New Year’s. Now that summer is here, we have a lot on our plates and are really looking forward to the next six months ahead.

You've decided to put your business plan into action. Congrats! Then your creative agency asks you the one question you really haven't thought about. They ask, "What colors do you have in mind, and what are you hoping your logo will convey?" You immediately think, "Um...I have no idea where to even begin."
